I love learning new things and sharing what I’ve learned with the littlest readers. I wanted them to experience the same wonder of nature that I have. So, under my birth name, I began writing for children when my own grandchildren were born.
One of my recent adventures was learning about the full moon, something that has fascinated me for years. The result: Once in a Full Moon, a picture book that tells in rhyme the stories behind the different names for our monthly visitor in the night sky.
I had such a good time writing Moon and got such a warm response from readers that I looked up to the sky once more for inspiration. The result is Pirate Ships and Shooting Stars. Told in rhyme like its predecessor, that book encourages young children—and their readers!—to use their imagination when looking up to the sky. From rainbows to constellations to pictures in the clouds, there’s so much to see if only they’ll look up.
Please visit me on my Facebook page, where I can update you on so many of the wonderful things going on in the heavens.
And for your little ones who aren’t yet reading, there’s a podcast to go along with my Facebook page. In “Skygazing with Carolinda” (see links in the sidebar) I talk about the many amazing things going on in the sky, from lunar eclipses to meteor showers.
And that’s not all! Detective Bears and Friends, another colorfully illustrated book, tells in cheerful rhyme about the names by which different animals groups are known. A lounge of lizards? A tower of giraffes? A sleuth of bears?
I’m also completing work on a collection of short stories for middle graders. Called Tuck and Friends, the stories center on the adventures of a group of animal friends who live in a Florida lakeside park.
And of course there’s also a newsletter, also called “Skygazing With Carolinda.” You can subscribe right here!
